The lake wasn’t small. The sparkling water along with that group of large white geese was the very picture of a farmstead, immensely beautiful. This used to be a scenic spot of the farmhouse, but the tourists nowadays probably wouldn’t like this lousy scenery at all.
"Force them ashore!" Geng Yan calmly ordered.
Although Geng Yan was very strong, it would still be too strenuous for him if he had to take care of the entire lake. With this much water in the lake, even if he were to act, the geese would at most just be numbed after being electrified, there was no way to cause any larger damage.
It was as ridiculous as an ant telling a man with a basin of water, who it finds to be very strong, to quickly put out a volcano. It has always been relative whether someone’s strength was strong or weak.
When everyone heard this order, they pulled together to force the big white geese onto the shore. All at once, fireballs, arrows, metal nails, and other attacks all flew out one after another, fully capable of dazzling observers.
Though these geese live in groups, they didn't have the awareness to work together. In the face of danger, they would each busy themselves to avoid the attacks coming their individual way, disregarding their other companions.
Geng Yan kept watch over these geese, and as soon as one comes ashore, he would immediately strike at it with a bolt of lightning, charring it. He slowly adjusted the strength of his ability, so by the end of it, the geese no longer became charcoal but had passed peacefully, as if they had been e★thanized.
As some big white geese just busied themselves running away, some had been simply directly killed. So as the number of geese that could control water decreased, Zhong Rushui took advantage of the opportunity to take back the controlling rights.
More than ten minutes later, the fierce battle finally ended.
Ji Anran gasped and panted. "It's finally finished."
There are a few dozens of geese in this group, so when they all attack at the same time, all the waterspouts became something very similar to those nets used to catch insects, and everyone had a very difficult time dodging. Fortunately, the situation started to slowly reverse in their favor, otherwise, they might even have exhausted themselves to death just by all the dodging.
The attack power of these geese was on a completely different level when compared to those big flying chickens with thick skin and plump meat.
Gao Xun plopped down and directly sat on the ground with an expression as if there was nothing left to live for on his face. "Does this farmhouse not have any normal poultry left?"
He only came out hoping to find something to eat.
After a short rest to reorganize, the group continued on their way.
Not long after, a small building full of an idyllic-rural aesthetic appeared in front of the public, this was precisely the guesthouse that they have been searching for.
When they were still some dozens of meters away from the guesthouse, the zombies inside and from the surrounding areas had already scented the group’s presence, immediately rushing over in excitement.
Everyone began to act once, and half an hour later, the about-dozen zombies have all been killed.
"At any rate, this had used to be a guesthouse, how are there so few zombies?" Gao Xun was puzzled.
Ji Anran pondered for a moment. "It may be because the outbreak of the apocalypse was on a weekday. The majority of the people who would go play at a farmhouse are from the city. On weekdays, they would’ve been at work, so it should be considered normal for there to be so few tourists here."
"But it's also possible that someone had killed zombies in this area previously, it's all hard to tell." Wei Yanhua joined in as well.
There were signs of battle and abilities having been used here, as well as some decaying remains of zombies. But it wasn’t as if there were originally no one here at all, so who could know for certain whether these were done by people who came to visit the farmhouse afterward or if these were done by those who had awakened abilities as they fled the farmhouse?
Geng Yan opened the map and took a look. "Let's divide into two groups to check around the guesthouse, see if there's any danger."
"Okay, I’ll be in the same group as Anran. The two of us are very familiar in cooperating, with a strong tacit understanding, a typical case of 1 + 1 > 2.” Wei Yanhua was standing beside Ji Anran with a clear smile on his face.
The smile on Geng Yan's face had already stiffened, and he almost hadn’t been able to hold back from tearing Wei Yanhua away.
But what annoyed him the most was that it wasn’t a good idea to separate Ji Anran and Wei Yanhua. After all, if Wei Yanhua wasn’t there, Anran wouldn’t be able to retrieve his arrows back, and his attack power would become greatly reduced.
“En. I’ll be in the group with Wei Yanhua and Anran, while everyone else will be in the second group. If you guys run into any danger that can’t be resolved, then send the signal for help. If there are no questions, we'll meet back here in half an hour.”
After Geng Yan finished the instructions, he walked over and took Ji Anran's hand.
"Let's go this way."
Ji Anran secretly smiled but didn't speak.
Geng-ge was precisely just stubborn. Obviously, he had tried so hard previously to bring their relationship closer, but Geng-ge just wouldn’t take the bait at all. Now though, it's better...
Ji Anran secretly turned it over in his mind, could it be because there was no sense of crisis?
“Geng-ge, you let go of my hand first. Danger can happen at any time here, I'm afraid I'll be slow in responding if anything were to happen. Let's not hold our hands, it'll also be more convenient for me when I need to pull the bow to shoot.”
Geng Yan, who had suffered this heavy attack: “...Right, what you said is right.”
Ji Anran smiled, and as they walked, he walked rather close to Wei Yanhua.
Watching from the side, Geng Yan’s heart felt really ill-at-ease.
Was it necessary to stick so close?
The distance between Anran and him was much wider than Anran’s with Wei Yanhua. At a glance, it would seem just as if Anran had a closer relationship with that one surnamed Wei, but they obviously had only known each other for a few days.
"Anran, don't walk so close to him, or you might step on his foot later in a moment of carelessness." Geng Yan very sincerely said.
If it gets flattened, that’ll be for the better, hehe!
Wei Yanhua put on a false smile. "I'd be willing. My skin’s rough and my flesh’s thick, I’ll be able to take it."
"Geng-ge, I won’t be so careless." Ji Anran felt helpless. "Yanhua and I are partners. When the time comes, the two of us would need to fight back to back, standing closer now would only make it more convenient."
Now that he wasn’t in Geng-ge's old garbage team anymore, he had to guarantee that he wouldn’t be dragging anyone down at any moment. He didn't want to cause Geng-ge any work complications just because of his personal affairs regarding their relationship.
Geng Yan gnashed his teeth with hatred but also had no way to refute it. On his face was still that same calm expression, but in his heart, he had already cut up Wei Yanhua numerous times.
There wasn’t much danger near the guesthouse, and after everyone had cleared up the scattered zombies and occasional mutated animals, they returned to meet up back at the guesthouse.
"No problems have been found. It should be safe for us to stay in the guesthouse tonight."
"En. Let’s go in and take a look inside the guesthouse now and clear away the obstacles inside. Then we can start cooking and prepare to rest." Geng Yan turned back to take a glance at Ji Anran, his eyes were smiling.
"The guesthouse has bathrooms, although the water supply has already been cut off, we have water and can just use it to take a wash inside. Everyone has worked hard the entire day, having sweated so much, everyone would also feel better after washing up."
Geng Yan's straightforward gaze was so obvious that it caused Ji Anran's heartbeat to also become chaotic.
And so because of his shyness, Ji Anran's face also became flushed. His butterfly-like eyelashes flapped as his eyes wavered, his gaze flitting here and there.
Although Wei Yanhua could feel that the ambiance wasn’t right, he still didn't speak up as he wasn't able to figure out what exactly Ji Anran was shy about.
Ji Anran opened the door to one of the guest rooms, and the dust on the ground also followed and floated up.
Afterward, everyone worked together to clean up all the dust, and then Gao Xun went to cook dinner.
Ji Anran walked into the now-clean bathroom, standing beside him was Geng Yan.
Geng Yan took out a large tub of water from his space, placing it in the bathroom before also putting a plastic water ladle in the water as well.
"Anran, you can wash up first, I’ll stand guard outside. If you run into any problems, you can call me." As Geng Yan said this, he also took out a set of clothes from his space and stuffed them into Ji Anran's arms.
Ji Anran checked it over, then with a face flushed with bashfulness and a voice as low as a mosquito: "You forgot to give me the underwear."
"En."
Geng Yan then took out a pair of underpants and stuffed them into Ji Anran's arms as well. "You still like trunks as before, right? They're quite nice and also comfortable to wear."
Ji Anran's small face was so red that it seemed to drip blood, he gently gave Geng Yan a push. "I want to wash up. You go out."
Having finished dallying Ji Anran, Geng Yan raised his hand to rub the other’s small face. "Your face is really hot."
"Get out." Ji Anran's voice was weak as if he was dying from all the embarrassment: "You must have done it on purpose!"
Obviously, when previously Geng-ge would give him clothes, it would’ve been an entire, complete set stuffed right into his arms, and the underwear would be inside the clothes such that it wouldn’t be seen unless the clothes were lifted.
"All of your clothes were organized by me before being put aside in sets, whatever that could be touched has long been touched. Go and quickly wash up, you've always loved to be clean. I presume you should be feeling very uncomfortable right now."
Geng Yan raised his hand and ruffled Ji Anran's hair before walking out with a chuckle.
Ji Anran’s face was still shockingly flushed, and he held the clothes without moving for quite a long time.
How could Geng-ge say that so straightforwardly, even though it is the truth... And someone's face became even hotter.Readers may sponsor chapters through the translator's kofi, PayPal, or Venmo for quicker and longer updates.
