Typically, space-ability users have always been well-protected by their teammates, and they usually would not participate in battles. However, last night, a dual-ability holder appeared on the black market. He was relatively strong and so to exchange for a second-order nucleus, had decided to take a risk in desperation.
Originally, since he had his teammates and since he also wasn’t someone weak, it wouldn’t have been a problem to escape. However, the unfortunate thing was, with all the battles happening outside of every black market exit, it had been just too chaotic. In the end, he hadn’t been killed by those who were chasing after him but was accidentally killed by another wave of people who were in the midst of their own fight!
As the first dead space-ability user, he proved to everyone with his life: Following the death of the space-ability user, the stored supplies would not disappear because of the space’s disappearance. On the contrary, if one can kill a spatial-ability ability, getting supplies would be just a matter of picking them up.
"Last night... Now everyone’s hearts are tempted, dreaming they can strike it rich overnight," Gao Xun worriedly said.
Ji Anran: "This time, it’ll be troublesome for Geng-ge."
...Not to mention those people, even he, this ‘poor debtor’s, heart was about to feel moved. A pity that it’s a teammate... Pooh, pooh, pooh!
What was he thinking just now? He's a perfectly upright ability-user with a model three-views[1]. Who would only kill bad people and zombies!
"I see. We can’t stay here any longer, we’ll leave immediately." Geng Yan's expression became somber. "Because of the problem that is the black market, most of the two bases’ powerhouses are all gathered in this area. If a fight really were to happen, this broken-down place would be even more dangerous than the zombie tide!"
At least, most of the zombies in the zombie tide wouldn’t have much intellect, and also won’t just focus their attacks on one particular person.
"Then I'll go back and pack up my things."
Gao Xun had turned around and was about to leave when he accidentally glimpsed the beautiful crystal nuclei bouquet on the table.
"So beautiful. Anran, is this something that you were planning to gift someone? Using so many nuclei to make such a flower bouquet, no wonder you were going on and on about how you were going bankrupt earlier."
Geng Yan and Ji Anran: "...Just shut up!"
Gao Xun immediately silenced himself.
He felt that the mood right now was incredibly wrong, so just as if there was oil on his soles, he just slipped away.
After Gao Xun left, Geng Yan with Ji Anran just stared at each other, large eyes staring at the other’s smaller eyes. For a moment, neither knew what to say.
"Geng-ge, you hurry and go back to pack up. We don't have much time; the earlier we leave, the safer it will be." Ji Anran turned around and began to clean up.
"Okay." Geng Yan turned around to leave.
"Wait, Geng-ge, you forgot to take the flowers."
A trace of hurt flashed past in Geng Yan’s eyes, but he still went forward and took away the bouquet.
Ji Anran stopped his moving about, his mood a bit complicated.
For some reason, a strange picture appeared in Ji Anran's mind. Because a certain someone is being pursued[2], he doesn't want to be implicated and so cruelly refuses the pursuit...
What the hell!
Ji Anran shook his head, trying to shake out all those stupid thoughts from his mind. He didn't need to bring much, most of the inconvenient things were already put into Geng Yan's spatial dimension.
Soon, Ji Anran was finished packing up and was ready to go.
Geng Yan first went to find his friend and with the other’s help, he brought the group away from the residential building using the back door that was for staff.
The upper management of the base had also quickly received the news, their expressions were rather poor.
In the basement, each face of those holding the emergency meeting was heavy and grave, not that different from when they first found out about the upcoming zombie tide.
"The amount of supplies a person can carry is limited, but there are a lot of supplies in a space-ability user’s dimension. Previously, there were already a lot of people wanting to rob supplies at the black market, and now... There are probably not that many people who would be able to resist the temptation."
"Not just, from how I see it, all those ability users are now already exceptionally stimulated as if they believe they’ve already struck it rich. These people aren’t weak at all and are hard to discipline. This is really troublesome..."
"Right, how is Geng Yan? There are only a few third-order ability users. If he dies before the zombie tide, it would be a great loss for the base," the leader asked.
There were only so many people in the teams that operated from their base, and the base leadership tended to have good impressions toward those powerhouse ability users who had a sense of justice but also weren’t prone to cause trouble. One of the reasons that Geng Yan had been able to get so much news and information from his friend was due to the tacit acquiescence from the base’s higher-leveled officials. After all, even if they can’t manage to draw the team into their own hands, it is still a good idea to keep a positive relationship.
Geng Yan's good friend stood up. "I had already secretly arranged for him to quietly leave from the staff access route. The only thing I’m unsure of is how many people would be waiting for them on the road back to the base right now..."
Although they had a lot of advanced weapons stored in the base, before the old state of society finally re-establishes, these were items that would be that much less once used. After all, the development, manufacture, and use of these gadgets were all very complicated and difficult to handle.
So they would still have to depend mainly on the ability users to solve the zombie tide. The base would definitely feel distressed if they lose a precious third-order ability user.
The leader muttered to himself for a good moment. "A lot of people this time are acting as if they had been injected with chicken’s blood. If we don't hurry and strengthen the control and management, I estimate the casualties will far exceed our expected range. Send the news, all of the base’s vehicles will depart in half an hour. If they miss it, they can walk back by themselves!"
During the apocalypse, cars were everywhere, and anyone can go and drive those high-performance sports cars. However... Everything’s for nothing without gas.
The two bases had vehicles specially prepared just for this trade fair to send people over. They didn't support the idea of their ability users taking the risk to attend the black market, so those who came in the latter half had all either walked over or had driven over themselves.
Now, because of the situation regarding space-ability holders, this place has completely descended into chaos. So if one wanted to try walking back to the base at this time, the danger definitely wouldn’t be insignificant!
[1] The three views are: (1) one’s view/outlook on the world/society, (2) one’s view/outlook on values, and (3) one’s view/outlook on life.
[2] The first ‘pursue’ is the chase to kill sort, while the latter is the chase to date sort.
