In a restroom at the research institute, Chen Xiaohui was washing his hands.

Vice Dean Guan Liyu came up next to him and said with a deeply lowered voice, "Xiao Chen, your courage isn’t small, such a capable person as well. It was I who had underestimated you before."

"Vice- Vice Dean, what are you saying? Why can't I seem to understand?" Chen Xiaohui's legs had almost gone completely soft.

Guan Liyu smiled. "You’re a good child. As the dean, Feng Yu still secretly went to study the zombie virus and even made a serum to turn people into zombies. And you, it was only because you wanted to expose him that you made such a stupid move. I firmly believe the base will definitely come to understand in the end."

"Vice Dean, I still don't understand?" Chen Xiaohui's back was already soaked with cold sweat.

There was a faint smile on the vice dean’s amiable old face. The other raised his hand and patted Chen Xiaohui on the shoulder. "You don't understand? It's okay, you'll get it soon."

The leader of the base was still waiting for the news. Then, as soon as he heard that Ji Anran and Geng Yan were both still very well, he immediately sighed in relief.

"Thankfully, thankfully. Now that the zombie tide is imminent, what kind of a situation would it be if zombies were to appear in the base? Who made this thing up, immediately go find me this person! See if I won’t kill him!"

Chen Xiaohui hadn’t hidden himself very well. Now that the law enforcement team wanted to investigate, after investigating all of Ji Anran's enemies one by one, they soon successfully found him.

Originally, Chen Xiaohui had still planned to go watch the excitement after finishing his overtime.

Unexpectedly, he managed to see the law enforcement team before the chance...

"For your group to come find me, is there something I can help with?" Chen Xiaohui raised an incredibly stiff smile with an immense guilty conscience.

Having received the news, Geng Yan and Ji Anran had also followed over. After all, they were victims and so had the right to know the truth.

The research institute had a lounge that was relatively large, which was usually used to entertain the higher-ups of the base who would come to inspect.

Feng Yu was taking care and guiding several people, leading them to enter the lounge.

Having to break into Geng Yan’s home earlier, the people from the law enforcement team all felt they had lost a lot of face. Even now, they were still angry.

"We've investigated your recent whereabouts, everyone you’ve been in contact with have said that you've been spreading the news that Ji Anran had turned into a zombie. Why don’t you give us a good explanation, explain why you did such a thing?"

Ji Anran was sitting on a sofa off on the side, sticking very close to Geng Yan. His complexion was wan, appearing very much like a little white flower, both worried and afraid.

"Xiaohui, why did you try to harm me? Although we had a bit of hatred back when we were still on the same team,... it wasn’t to the point where you would want to harm me with such dedication, scheming and plotting until now, right?"

Chen Xiaohui absolutely hated Ji Anran's pretense of an innocent expression and vehemently gave Ji Anran a vicious glare.

"You shut up for me! The person I hate most in this world is you! Back in the team, there was already no shortage of times where you used [this] disgusting expression to pit me. That’s right, I did it on purpose. I precisely wanted you to have a bad time and so casually made up a story, what about it?!"

Previously, he had thought that even if he got found out, it’s okay, he would simply be a hero who actually dared to expose the situation. But who could know... Ji Anran didn't actually turn into a zombie. Really, what the h★ll!

"Very well, Then, Chen Xiaohui, can you explain: when did you come to hate the law enforcement team?" The leader of the law enforcement team stared at Chen Xiaohui coldly.

Chen Xiaohui with a stupefied face: "Wh-what?"

"You said you had only casually made it up, then you should have also known that as long as the law enforcement team went to their door to check, the matter would naturally come to light. Ji Anran wouldn’t be impacted at all in any way, but we would be the ones that would end up being played as the fool."

Chen Xiaohui was scared foolish.

The law enforcement team had a lot of power inside the base, it wasn’t anything wise to offend them.

"Or, is it that your target wasn’t the law enforcement team but that you had been instructed by someone else to incite a riot in the base?"

Seeing how such a heavy crime was almost going to press down on him, Chen Xiaohui was about to pee his pants.

At this time, he finally understood what the vice dean's words were trying to say.

"In fact, I... The dean’s been secretly studying the zombie virus and had extracted some ingredients from zombies to make a serum. Their plan is precisely to turn all the powerhouses of the base into zombies, so they can openly and fairly kill them all to get the crystal nuclei. I was only worried that if I directly exposed the matter, it would only end up being suppressed by the Dean through his contacts, so I thought of such a move."

"The zombie virus was exactly given to the Dean by Ji Anran and them!"

Ji Anran was so frightened that the watermelon in his hand was almost about to drop. His deer-like eyes were glossy, seeming utterly at a loss.

"I- I really haven't done anything?"

  1. ... Isn't this lie of CX too obvious? Or am I the only one who skipped some part?

Thanks for the chapters! I love how Anran is so sassy!

    1. -nod nod- A lot of holes. Deliberate, I believe. Recall during that chapter (I think the one where he switched the serum), Chen Xiaohui isn't particularly smart.

      Thank you for reading~

  2. And here on the left you can see CX exhibiting classic cannon fodder behavior; obstructing the protagonists with badly thought out plans and a weak motive. Take notes everyone!

    Thanks for the chaps~~

    1. 🤔 For me, I think of him more so as an example of what-not-to-do when one encounters rebirth.
The classic cannon fodder can do without the rebirth element.
In terms of the plan... If Anran really was someone would would take such a serum (which I don't think he is, with or without his wind ability, especially after his rebirth), it might have played out better. A lot of schemes hinge heavily on psychological plays and analysis... Which, was never Chen Xiaohui's forte.
Motive... I think, was rooted in his pettiness? Which, is technically fine (as we've seen times where it plays out successfully) but only is one has the strength to support it.

So maybe... a classic "overestimating oneself while underestimating one's enemy?"

      Thank you for reading~
