The city was dilapidated and in ruins, full of desolation.
In a small house a few hundred meters away from the square where the trade fair was held, a pallid man was leaning on a chair with cold sweat dripping down his forehead.
He was weak all over and his hands trembled uncontrollably.
On his clothes were traces of that green spray that he had been attacked with, emitting an indescribable stench, further stimulating his fragile nerves.
"How is it? Can I still be saved?"
The hoarse voice rang out inside the room. This man who used to be so full of mettle was now unspeakably haggard that even the fire in his eyes seemed as if it was about to go out.
The several other people who had also been ‘hit’ were leaning back on the sofa with a panic-stricken demeanor. Each were in the queue for treatment, but they didn’t know whether they would be able to last until then.
If their team leader hadn’t used his ability to suppress them, forcibly assigning the order to receive treatment, these people would have already started to brawl against each other.
However, although they were pressured to settle down for the time being, a strong feeling of dissatisfaction towards the team leader was already planted in everyone’s heart, with the exception of the person who was currently receiving treatment. After all, their team leader hadn’t personally participated in the catch and rob this time. Given that the unfortunate ones didn’t include him who had sent the order, of course he could stay calm!
The healing ability holder placed their hand on the person's forehead and a white light appeared from the palm which instantly went out again.
The hope in the man's eyes instantly collapsed. "I'm going to die, I’m going to die, right?! Your healing ability can't treat my poison..."
As soon as the man's words fell, the room was instantly in an uproar.
"It’s not that."
The healing ability user lowered his hand. "Before joining a team, I had encountered the situation of detoxifying others before. One time, that person’s poison was just too terrifying, my ability hadn’t been able to save him but in the process just kept being consumed to keep him alive. As soon as I stopped, the poison that should have acted still acted."
The captain, who had been keeping watch on the side, frowned.
"Your meaning is..."
"You guys haven’t been poisoned." The healing ability user sighed. "You’ve been deceived."
For Ji Anran to have chosen to take risk to fool them instead, it showed that he felt that it would not have been in his best interests to continue remaining in that struggle. Unfortunately, if their teammates hadn’t left at that time but continued to stick to it for a while longer…
The man who had just been leaning on the chair with a look of death on his face suddenly stood up, his face now red with fury. "D★mn, I got played!"
"D★mn it! This enmity between I and Ji Anran is now fully set in stone!"
The other "sickly" teammates also immediately became vigorous and lively again. With their ferocious appearances, one wouldn’t have needed to see the chainsaw to know that they weren’t good people[1].
At the same time, in several inconspicuous corners of the city, there were other people who were violently stomping their feet, hopping mad, after the half-hour time frame after which the poison should have acted had passed.
"Ji Anran, I'm not finished with you yet!"
One man tore up his freshly written will then kicked over a garbage can by the side of the road amid the laughter of his friends.
Someone else started picking up things in their house, smashing them onto the ground one after another, not even caring whether this might attract the zombies that were nearby.
And there were also some people who started blaming each other.
"You’re also from Chenxi Base. How could you not know whether the research institute had any new products? It makes sense that I wouldn’t know since I leave the base all the time to kill zombies, but what have you been doing in the base?!"
"It’s not like I'm familiar with the people in the research institute. I'll only find out when the new products are finally out for sale, okay!? Ji Anran and Wei Yanhua are in the same team. The dean, Feng Yu, likes Wei Yanhua, so who would know whether he has given them anything in private. Not every product of the research institute would be on sale for the public."
"What you said is still reasonable..."
"What right do you have to accuse me, didn’t you also fall for it?"
But regardless of how these "survivors" reacted, one thing was for sure and that was their resentment against Ji Anran was more and more intense.
