Gao Xun, who had sought death n amount of times, was finally taught a lesson by Geng Yan. Having accumulated so much “hatred” in the past, it was rather terrifying for it to be all accounted for all at once.
But because Gao Xun had a good attitude, when Geng Yan made his move…… it was still rather heavy.
Gao Xun was beaten until he was laying on the ground, rubbing his sore shoulders.
"Geng-ge, are you doing this to train me, or are you just trying to beat me up?"
"Half-half."
Geng Yan took back his hand. "You should practice well these techniques I taught you today. Also, you should really control that mouth of yours more. Offending people this easily, though those in the team wouldn’t bicker with you about it, but if you go on like this... Sooner or later, you’ll get beaten to death."
"Geng-ge, I'm not good at socializing. It’d be better for you to assign me some other tasks?" Gao Xun had an expression as if he wanted to cry.
But of course, given how Gao Xun's face was now all black, blue, and swollen, one also can't see whether he was crying or smiling.
"I’m just having you go back to read, and yet you have a face as if you’re attending a funeral." Geng Yan shook his head with helplessness. "Don't count on it, I won't change my mind. Hurry home and study, I'll test you later on."
Gao Xun went back sporting a face full of bruises, the sorrow in his heart almost to the point of overwhelming him.
"Oh~ Isn't that Gao Xun? How did your face get beaten to this state? Is it because you said something wrong?" One person who saw Gao Xun couldn't help laughing his heart out.
He was precisely one of those people who had once been offended by this Gao Xun chap because of his inability to speak properly. But what was different about his situation from Geng Yan was that he wasn’t strong enough to beat Gao Xun.
"Go away, or take care that I'll hit you!" Gao Xun waved his fist.
A good number of people were overjoyed seeing how Gao Xun's face was all black and blue. It can’t be helped, with no ability to beat Gao Xun themselves, it was also refreshing seeing him be beaten by others!
In the bright and spacious living room, Ji Anran sat upright with a pen in hand.
Geng Yan inched over and found that Ji Anran was making plans on how to deal with the zombies.
"Anran, I'm reflecting over just when I should abdicate my position as team captain to you," Geng Yan joked.
Ji Anran didn't even lift his head. "I'm lazy, I won't do it. Right, I more or less know the level of everyone in the team’s acting skills. There shouldn’t be any problems from the others but Gao Xun... I'm afraid he won't be able to play it well and let the cat out of the bag."
"Don't worry, I've already taken care of it. I won't let you near any danger, I've already filled this loophole for you at the first opportunity." Geng Yan looked at Ji Anran, his eyes were burning, full of deep affection.
Ji Anran was taken aback and raised his eyes. "Geng-ge, you do remember that you weren’t a professor of a film academy before, right? How did you improve Gao Xun's acting skills in such a short time?"
"I gave him training, specifically choosing his face when making a move. His face is already swollen into a pig's head. If someone can still tell whether Gao Xun is lying through his expressions, then I will have nothing left to say."
"Hahaha, Geng-ge, you’re too awful!"
Ji Anran burst into laughter.
The next day, Ji Anran claimed ill and didn't go out.
Recently, the hottest thing in the base was the matter regarding the ability stimulating serums. So logically, this small thing about Ji Anran shouldn’t have attracted much attention. However, this wouldn’t be the case if someone were to deliberately add fuel to the flames.
"Have you heard, that famous powerhouse in our base Geng Yan? It seems his backyard had caught on fire[2]." A person said very mysteriously.
The woman looked up with a blank look. "Backyard caught on fire? Didn't that boyfriend of his already break up with him?"
"That little white face Ji Anran is still living at Geng Yan's house, you know. After getting back to the base yesterday, he hasn't stepped even half a foot back out since! From what I heard, Ji Anran got bitten by a zombie!"
The woman was so scared that her complexion paled. "You mean there’s a zombie inside the base?! Then what are we going to do? What if Geng Yan didn't oversee it properly and the zombie ran out? The streets are all full of ordinary people! Ah, fortunately, I don't go out much, this is too horrifying!"
During the apocalypse, ordinary people such as women, children, and the elderly had a particularly high mortality rate due to their disadvantage in physical strength. Aside from the few who had awakened an ability, the rest of the women in the base have all found some backer to support them in order to continue their lives.
"What a sin! To raise a zombie inside the base, that’s simply mental! No! I have to go stage a sit-in front of the base’s executive office!" One person said this and went out the door.
Similar situations happened throughout the base.
It was basically impossible to determine where the news actually came from. In less than two hours, the news was rampant within the base, causing fear within everyone.
As Ji Anran had to fake the illusion that some accident had indeed happened, he couldn’t go out anyway and so he simply slept in.
With this sleep, he directly skipped breakfast, sleeping all the way to noon... When he was again awakened by the aroma of the food.
The tears Ji Anran was shedding in his heart were wide as strips of noodles. "Days like this, how do I live through it!"
The living room was very quiet, there were only the sounds of Geng Yan placing down the bowls and chopsticks ringing through.
After washing up, Ji Anran went outside. He stared at the scrumptious lunch on the table for a good beat, then headed to the fridge to get some bread.
Not happy, moving out, moving out!
"Anran, don't eat that. I made you lunch," Geng Yan called out.
Ji Anran swallowed the saliva in his mouth, and with his barely maintained reason, "No, no need. We’re just friends. I can't accept..."
"Anran, I like you."
Geng Yan looked at Ji Anran, the gentleness in his eyes was so clear it was almost as if it could drip out. "Do you remember yesterday? If you're unwilling to accept it, I'll go to the kitchen right now and make a bit more, then call everyone over. For you, I can be the team’s exclusive cook."
Ji Anran: "......"
Fine, you win.
With no choice, Ji Anran walked over and began to eat.
So delicious!
Was he the kind of person who would get back together with someone just because of food? Was he that shallow?... Ah, really want to be such a superficial person.
While gnawing on a chicken leg, Ji Anran thought silently as he tried to force his brain to think of something else.
"Geng-ge, Chen Xiaohui should have already taken action, right? What's the situation right now?"
"Although the test results haven’t come out on Feng Yu’s side yet, I already know what effect that replaced serum has. Anran, right now, the entire base is full of rumors that I have a zombie lover."
Ji•Zombie•Anran: "......"
"Actually, if you really turned into a zombie, I also won’t be able to bear killing you. At that time, we probably won’t be able to stay in the base anymore, so I’ll have to find another place to live with you."
Ji Anran: "......"
Raising a zombie, you're amazing!
[2] Literal translation: “backyard catching on fire,” implies some problem had arisen very close to home, typically within the family, team, etc.
