In a small bar of the base, Geng Yan was chatting with his close friend who had gotten off work.

They were in a private room with very luxurious décor.

"Geng Yan, from what you’ve said, there must have been quite a bit of supplies in that farmhouse, you've made a fortune this time." The good friend patted Geng Yan's shoulder. "It’ll be your treat tonight."

Geng Yan smiled. "Fine. Right, has anything happened in the base recently?"

"Nothing big really, just a small matter with the base expansion. But what’s about to happen, however, well, then there’s something rather major." His friend suddenly lowered his voice, and the other’s originally sloppy appearance also disappeared.

Seeing the solemnity of his friend's expression, Geng Yan's heart followed and hung in suspense.

"What is it?"

"An investigation found an army of zombies heading towards the base. The zombies were originally from urban villages[3]. Densely populated with generally rather narrow stairs and streets, it wouldn’t have been easy for people to escape. The zombies have been consistently moving in the direction of the base, according to information from a reliable source, their numbers are at least in the four figures."

"In those sorts of places, it would probably be difficult even for ability holders to escape. Rescue troops would prioritize places with relatively lesser zombies, precisely in fear of the case that the entire team could end up wiped out before even actually getting to rescuing anyone. With so many zombies, we’ll probably have a fierce battle to fight at that time." Geng Yan’s brows were deeply furrowed.

He had originally planned to head to search for daily supplies before coming back to get the results on the mutant animals. But now it seemed that he would have to reorganize his plan.

The base was their base camp, now that their home was about to be bulldozed down by the zombies, even they found however much more supplies, what use would it be?

"Our base is currently preparing to set up a trade fair with Xiwang Base[4] at Fengyuan Square, which is right in the middle between us two bases. Although the leaders of the two bases have already come into agreement, who knows whether anyone would deliberately complicate the matter when the time actually comes."

The good friend continued earnestly, "With our tide of zombies imminent, they also have their wave of zombies aiming at them to destroy their base. So while there definitely won’t be anything big that will escalate to a fight between the bases, it would be very difficult to avoid the fights between ability holders, quietly killing one another in private to steal."

Geng Yan took a sip of the wine. His expression was very calm, it was very obvious that everything was as he had expected.

"This is normal. After all, there would always be people who would try to use some small, dirty means in the dark. Even if it were to happen in some dark corners inside the base, the base still wouldn't be able to control it."

From an inside pocket, Geng Yan pulled out an invitation and placed it on the table.

"There is a black market in the base, you must have known about it already. They have also discussed with those people in Xiwang Base and will set up a black market there in order to exchange some goods. If you guys have the need, you can also go and take a look when the time comes."

Why not just sell the perfectly good supplies at the base's market? Of course, it could only be because the source isn’t legitimate, and thus afraid for people to find out.

At the black market, everyone would bundle themselves up such that nothing could be revealed, who could know who you were? Moreover, there wouldn’t be any law enforcement teams there, nor any righteous passersby that would be dead set against any injustice. One simply wouldn’t be able to find anywhere more suitable for disposing of stolen goods.

Of course, because the prices at the black market tend to be higher, there would also be some people whose goods didn’t have any problematic sources but were willing to take the risk and still go to try and earn big money.

[4] The grammatical order here follows the raws, which is atypical for English, I think? If it were an “Air Force Base” then it should appear after the end of the name, meanwhile, I think the “Base” here should function like “Camp” and thus be in front of the name… For my own convenience, I will leave it as [name-Base] unless I get a lot of complaints from you readers.
